I'd personally recommend trying out weakpoint damage increase once it's unlocked, and investing in some accuracy mods.
The revolver gets substantially better as you go. For example, faster spinup time lets you be way more reactive and cooling the gun every time you kill an enemy will let you fire for absurdly long amounts of time if you need to. Mods will make your life a lot easier with the minigun, whether you go for either damage increases, or QoL improvements. The flamethrower is really good at dealing with medium and small bois (best anti-swarmer weapon in the game in my opinion), but as you run into higher health and bigger enemies, you'll find the minigun will blow virtually every other weapon out of the water. As mentioned below, kind of bunny hopping to keep your momentum in the air so you're not as slow can help. The minigun should outclass the flamethrower in damage, but the mobility is a bit of hurdle. It's worth noting that the effectiveness and specialization of your weapons will improve as you continue to level up and gain access to more mods. It also allows you to start unloading damage with the minigun, without needing to kite.
It's the one of the most powerful things in the game. Gunners main strength is with his shield, that thing can HARD CARRY entire teams if the gunner drops it at the right time. Flamethrower can't make advantage of these weakspot bonuses. For mactera, it's 3x damage to the belly and for grunts it's 2x damage to the head. One thing to consider is that minigun can easily hit weakpoints (like a grunt's head) for increased damage. But likewise the flamethrower is able to shred entire hordes of smaller enemies. Later on flamethrower will barely hold a candle to the damage you can do later on against big bois. Spitballers, Breeders, Praetorians it can shred them all. Minigun is really good against larger enemies, and longer range enemies. This lets you be decently mobile while outputting decent damage, The slowdown can be a little rough, but you can adapt around it. First major tip about the minigun is being able to jump and shoot while mid air.
